A community art series celebrating the people and pups of Huntington Beach.

Seen in Surf City is a collaborative art project that celebrates the everyday people and beloved dogs of Huntington Beach. Artists Toni Haas and Melissa Murphy paint portraits inspired by the familiar faces, friendly encounters, and neighborhood moments that make this beach town feel like home. Each portrait reflects the warmth, personality, and charm of the Surf City community. A new portrait will be revealed each month, inviting the community to see if they recognize the familiar faces and beloved dogs that inspire the artwork.

You may have seen them around Surf City… but can you guess who they are?
Each painting is inspired by someone noticed around town—walking the pier, enjoying the beach, or exploring the city with their dog. These everyday encounters become portraits that celebrate the people and personalities that make Huntington Beach such a vibrant and unforgettable community.

The community plays an important role in this project. After each portrait is shared, locals and visitors are invited to help identify the person or dog in the painting. Friends, neighbors, and local businesses often recognize someone and help reconnect them with their portrait. These moments create meaningful connections and remind us how small and special our coastal community really is.
